Unfortunately, it seems that administration who have never been challenged with teaching and/or creating a class online seem to think it is just a matter of transferring the information/material instead of transforming it!

Feedback from students is important in any course, it is not exclusive to online courses.  However, students are not in the "classroom" and it is important to look at other ways how they are giving the instructor feedback.

I will be relying mostly on synchronous learning.  There will be activities that the students will do as asynchronous learning, but the majority of how they will learn will be in Virtual Classroom.

It is important to match the tool with the goal that you, as the instructor, want the student to achieve.  You should make sure the students know the expectation of how you want them to use the tool.  I will be relying heavily of the virtual classroom.

Online and on-ground, there are similar problems.  However, students feel less connection and can have more problems (real or imagined) with their classes.

Body language is an important aspect of how we communicate, we have to compensate for body language not being part of how we are "talking" to the students.

The students should know why you are teaching the class (your qualifications) and what the plan is for your and their participation in the class.

I think that one of the most important to recognize with online students is to make sure they feel connected to the course and the instructor.

I find that when I am teaching math within my classes (especially word problems) a lot of my students "shut-down" because of their previous experiences with math and word problems.  So, it isn't always about their base knowledge they have coming into the classrooom, it is their self-worth from other instructors and classes too.

I have moved from rarely using Power Point in my lectures to having it in almost all my lectures.  I try very hard to make sure they are useful in the education of the students.  The problem is that some students think that all they need to study are the Power Points from the lecture and they will do well in the class.  This is not true and I DO tell them during different parts of the semester that they should not be focusing only on the Power Points when they are studying for the exams.
