Activity

Teaching strategies can vary but being prepared and practicing demonstrations ahead of time are keys to success. Also breaking down lectures to 15-20 mins, keeps the attention span and can help to stay engaged.

When meeting students for the first time, greeting them at the door is a good ice breaker. Introduce yourself and get to know the students. Have them get in to smaller groups to get to know each other. After attendance and learning their names, go over syllabus and make sure they know course objectives and class expectations.

Being prepared is arriving early to greet the students. Have a syllabus prepared and ready for any questions to ensure everyone is on the same page. Set goals for the class and expectations for their results. Use a checklist to make sure you stay on track.

What I had taken from the module was to become a professional role model for my students. First impressions cannot be taken back, so dress accordingly. Build a rapport with students and find ways they like to learn and support and encourage them to succeed.
