Connections are key. Connecting yourself as an educator and facilator of knowledge to the source material provides credibility. Connecting with your students on a professional yet engaged way provides a solid foundation for learning. Connecting students with each other will strengthen the cohort and may lead to a better experience. Connecting to the end and the steps along the way will reduce stress and enhance potential outcome.

A successful learning experience starts with preparation and requires clear communication. A successful teacher will set and manage expectations before class starts. By clearly communicating learning goals, objectives, learning activities, syllabus, etc., students can accept and willingly participate in the class.

A successful teacher (i.e., one who engages their students and enables transformative learning to occur) must act professionally, modeling behavior they expect from their students. Successful teachers work continually at becoming so. They seek to master themselves and their material. Which, for many—myself included—is a never-ending process. A great teacher finds ways to bring their distinct personality to the course and materials, adjusting their style to fit specific circumstances and needs. Putting students first and empathizing with their challenges in learning new stuff is vital. Enthusiasm and a real passion for the material create engagement.
