If the school works to develop effective admissions procedures, well planned orientation programs, good mentoring, student involvement, fabulous graduations ceremonies and students getting good jobs them the results will be increase in enrollments, high retention rates, student and staff satisfaction improvement and great placements rates. 

Academic and social integration together with timely intervention can increase retention. Professors and staff must recognize signals that could indicate students are dealing with situations affecting their learning process and therefore graduation rates, 

 

Orientation previous first day of classes could be extremely helpful for student transition. Mentoring formal or informal is another strategy institutions could use to support students. We can measure the impact of orientation and mentoring in retention following students performance. 

I have learned the importance of the information provided by Applicant Qualification Checklist and Self-Checks to determine the appropriate admission strategies. Based on information from both we can better understand the ideal student’s profiles for our different programs and determine if the applicants will have real possibilities of success. That way we can obtain the best results or evaluate our admission process the make the necessary adjustments. The admission process is the first step of retention.
