About me

Hi every, I prefer to go by Trish. I have been in higher education since 2008, and have worked for profit, and non-profit colleges and universities. As well as institutions offering associates, bachelors and masters programs on ground, online and through belended/hybrid formats.

I teach pscyhology and sociology courses and I am interested in all aspects of academics as an adjunct professor. I am open to learning about best practices, using hihger learning and scaffolding (Blooms Taxonomy) and life/professional continuing education.

What kinds of professional development activities do you participate in? What are some helpful resources for other faculty to use, or access information to complete their professional and faculty development requirments for their own institutions?

I really liked the classroom Balloon Launch exercise! I think I will try this with my students,

I know as busy faculty and professionals we all have so much in our lives to manage: work, family, education and everything in-between! One best practice I have found that really has worked well for me in trying to achievement my faculty/professional development credits each year is joining webinars. Since we are so busy it can be difficult to break away from your schedule and physically go to a training, workshop or conference. I have found that many of our vendors offer great webinars for the busy professional. They also archive these so they can be easily accessed and reviewed… >>>

Students in these courses are so diverse: age, gender, race, ethnicity, ethics, morals, religions, geographic locations, cultures, and diverse perspectives and opinions. I find teaching an intro class you need to bring the material to the students, make them want to be invested and also have them apply what they learn and read into their daily lives. I always tell my students that they use psychology in their everyday lives and interactions, its just a matter of recognizing this! Recently I attended a webinar about Blooms Taxonomy as well as comparing Finks and Herrington taxonomy's. These are screen shots fromt he webinar (not a complete PPT screen shot, but most).

Synapsis: The webinar discusses multiple topics and theories for critical thinking for students. This information can be used in any course but specifically is designed for introductory and critical thinking courses. The discussions covered Blooms Taxonomy and how you can use this theory to develop assignments for your students in diverse ways.
