Early on in my nursing career I had a nurse mentor who cautioned me about becoming a "one trick pony". She explained the importance of remaining a competent generalist while achiving expert status in specialities. With this in mind, I have strategically guided my clinical and academic experience to expose me to learning things that were out of my comfort level. In doing so, I learned the most  meaningful things from my peers, students and patients. Learning is a life long experience. We can always learn something from someoneleses' lived experience.

Planning and facilitating learning experiences that will "fit" the course is much more complicated when dealing with the reality of multigenerational students. While, we do not want to reduce any student to gerneralized "characteristics", the information provided is helpful in providing basic foundational constructs to support further discussion.
