ESL students should not be prevented from studying in their own language along side the language of instruction.  Instructors should understand that culture and language are connected, and incorporate this understanding into instruction

The classroom should foster respect, empath, and appreciation for differences while reducing stereotypes. All learners need t feel included and valued. 

This reinforces the importance of student centered learning where instructors get to know their students and include the  prior knowledge and experiences of the students as part of the learning process.   It is important to recognize unconscious bias, and be aware of it creeping into the classroom environment
