Instruction in an online learning environment can present some challenges. Learning more about your students and their learning styles/behaviors can help navigate and mitigate some of those challenges by addressing those situations and issues earlier.

It is most important to use asynchronous discussions to review the main content of the course and synchronous discussions for follow up on subject matters in a smaller groups or 1:1 session.

Projecting your presence is important so that a rapport can be built with the students. This will help to build confidence and trust with one another. It is also important to share expectations, boundaries, and set deadlines for course materials and discussions.

It is important to become familiar with the teaching platform and support services. Although the structure of the course is the same, the approach of the instructor may be different. This offers the instructor the ability to make the course their own and enhance the learning of the student.

I have learned that there are several different ways to engage students. I have learned the setting, time of day, general interest in the subject matter, and willingness to learn all impact the learning experience and the teaching technique and strategies that will be used. I believe it is with time, experience, application, and feedback from the students and faculty that my teaching strategies will be enhanced. Thank you all for your wonderful discussion on this topic!
