I learned the difference between a preference and a challenge.  Preference is how a student prefers to receive information.  Challenges may be how a student struggles with comprehending material in the manner in which it is presented.  Again, using a variety of teaching methods helps to reinforce the topic and address various preferences and challenges.

I learned the importance of allowing learners to utilize tools where able that access their mother tongue as a way of processing and understanding new concepts.  English only settings may limit a students potential based on the way they learn and process information particularly based on their literacy of that particular language.

I appreciated the discussion on race being limited when it is focused on external physical characteristics.  I learned that lessons should be reviewed for bias and to continue to use a variety of teaching techniques including technology to ensure all learners feel seen.

I learned how race, culture, and language may help shape students' learning experiences. I found it especially valuable to explore the unique challenges faced by mono-, bilingual, and multilingual learners in a college setting. Being new to education, this helped highlight the importance of inclusive teaching practices that support students with different cultural experiences.
