I learned so much from this module.  One thing I found interesting is that the brain perceives input as either abstract or concrete, and that people generally feel more comfortable using one or the other. Some students might prefer a sequential step-by-step approach whereas others might learn best through ideas and imagination.

I can use this information by trying both approaches depending on the students learning preferences, but ultimately blending both because they'll need to develop both types of skills in the work environment.

One thing I thought was interesting is that on average, adults learn approximately 400 new things per year.

I enjoyed learning about negative bias and mindset. It gave me perspective about where students might be emotionally, and how it might negatively affect their learning. My job is to cultivate and maintain a growth mindset to facilitate learning while also having a postitive impact on their mental and physical well-being.

I intend to have my students take the VIA character strength survey so they can identify their strengths and can use those to their advantage throughout their education.

I think my main takeaway is creating clear expectations by providing examples of what's expected. Anytime you can eliminate frustration that will enhance the learning process. And from a teaching standpoint, the less complications I have to deal with, the more time I have for teaching and instructing.

Learning styles are a combination of cognitive, emotional, and motivational factors. By considering these factors and using a multimodal approach, educators can accommodate all learning styles.

I like the flip-chart game as it doesn't put anyone on the spot. I'll have to think of a way this can be incorporated into distant learning.

Speed of speech is much slower than the speed of thought-- which means if you don't actively engage students their mind will wander. Makes so much sense!

My takeaway from this module is the word "navigate." As an instructor, I have to know my CMS inside and out. Along with that, I need to decide how the information will be segmented and sequenced within the CMS to make it as clear as possible for every type of learner. It's my job as a remote teacher to not only navigate the system in a way that is conducive to learning but to navigate my students through the learning process, including any technical support they may need.
