About me

In the dissertation phase of my doctorate - "Security Awareness of Those Using Public Wi-Fi"

Currently passing on the knowledge I acquired while working in the Information Technology industry for 20 years to student who are obtaining their degrees in Higher Education.

Prior to entering Higher Education I am an accomplished, multi-faceted IT Professional, with 20 years of experience in system design, data/systems analysis, learning program development and implementation, project planning and direction, and team leadership.

Understanding the strengths of my adjunct instructors is one of the skills I used in the military that I also use in education. I also give the big picture of what I will accomplish each term and for the year. Obtain feedback from instructors to move forward. The department has a mission statement that connects with the school mission statement. This way we are all moving in the same direction.

I notice my military training has prepared me to what has become second nature with me. Making sure a person is sharing the same vision of the organization helps a lot. I have avoided leadership positions because of other commitments. However, co-workers and friends have come to me for directions. My initial exposure to leadership was during Army basic training when I was given the role a platoon guide. Following that was Senior Army ROTC, then on to obtaining my commission as an Adjutant General Officer Platoon leader with a platoon of 60 soldiers. In the Army had to have… >>>

I decided to take ED101 to reinforce and confirm what I know.  I have been teaching for 10+ years and it is great to see I am still on the path to ensure learning.

Generation Y learn differently for Generation X and Baby Boomers.  Each term I look at the percentage of each generation.  This allows me to change the course to engange the generations because there is no one size fits all.

Personal responsibility is what I teach in my classes.  The agenda for the current class and next class is posted on the board as well as the assigments are listed on the portal and on their calendar and the syllabus states the assignments due dates.  However, I may remind my first year students and I also talk about personal responsibility to them.  With this we talk about tools to help them become better students.
