Having a questionnaire at the beginning of the course on their preferred learning styles can be helpful. I, myself have discovered that I am a hands on for retaining the process of doing a certain job.

Preparation before class is the best way to avoid some of the jitters before class. I am the last person who wants to stand in front of a class room full of students I don't know personally. I look at it as the first day of meeting a class room full of students wanting to learn how to work in an industry I happen to love. And so, I cant wait to meet and get to know them.

We all have our moments. I have always tried to give the angry person the benefit of the doubt, that they are mad about something else, and I am just the lucky guy that gets to help them through it. LOL

I was once attended a training class the required a talking stick. It got passed around the classroom. I really liked how that worked. I would probably try that.

The expectation of the classroom should mimic the environment in which they will be working in. What is expected of the student in a classroom will be the same as an employee. Policies and procedures, deadlines, teamwork, professional attitude, all of which I would give examples from my personal experience in this field.

The course to be instructed helps to determine the method in which to instruct. Having different teaching styles helps all students to understand the subject.

I believe the first day is important because it set the tone for your class. Keeping in mind that while we are getting to know each other on personal level the instructor must keep it professional.

Preparation prior to class is important to the students knowing what is expected from them as well as from the instructor.

Leading by example in a professional manner and always work on new techniques to keep your students engaged.
