About me

I am an Adjunct Professor at a career college.  I tend to teach math and business courses.

One of my keenest interests is to taek apparently difficult concepts and make them accessible.  I feel I have been able to do this with applied business statistics, computer networking, and calculus.

I am interested in others who have had to make some of these topics accessible and the methods used.

Activity

I found ED102 useful and relevant to my instructional techniques.  I learned more formal terminology for some of my classroom practices.  It sure made me stop and think about what I am doing in the classroom. My most important take away was how I might encourage non-talkers to participate.

This took a bit longer than I anticipated, but it was well worth it.

Discussion Comment
In many of the courses I teach, I have found that dividing them into a midterm and a final is not necessarily conducive to student retention. I tend to have quizes more frequently, dividing some of my courses into thirds or quarters, and, in one instance, giving a quiz every week. This tends to make it easier for me to keep my focus and the students to keep their focus.
