About me

I love learning and am always on the look out for new learning activities.

I have learning disabilities and many health issues (such as sezuires) which tend to hinder the learning.

I teach at a career college, which I also graduated from 2x with three degrees.  I am honored to be able to give back to the students as other great teachers have given to me.

I think that retention and motivation go hand and hand.  I have always tried to figure out ways to figure out ways to help keep students from dropping from class (especially after they got thier loan checks).  I had to figure out that those students' motivation was thier loan check and they obtain thier goals so they left.

I have learned in ED 102 that thier are other ways in which to motivate a student.  Just because a student has a certain motivation when they start school, that does not mean that has to be thier same motivation when they… >>>

The entire course was challenging with good information.  Some was reinforcement of what I already do, but offered insights for ways to improve my current classroom activitis.

The follow of the course was self- pased and allowed me to take breaks as needed.  I learned a lot in in this course which will enhance my instructional activities.

We are provided with the syllabus from our parent campus. I believe that the key is even if everyone has the same syllabus you need to make it your own through the use of a perpectus. Also you need follow through, for example don't list activities if they are not really going to be taken place within the course. For instance, don't tell your students you will have a guest speaker and never have one show up or you don't have time for one within the course. I know the importance of this topic, but I have always stuggled with it. We teach adults, yet have to have them sign-in each hour to prove they were in class. We have to follow the course discription and requirements of the college, but we as instructors are pentalized for students not completing our courses. I don't mind being pentalized for things I can control, but when a student gets put in jail or just quits coming to class; I can only do so much to get that student back in the classroom.
