It is really important that the parent and student have a clear understanding of why a student is classified as dependent or independent. In cases where the student is living independently but does not meet the DOE requirements (main,y age, under age 24) I find is difficult for families to understand and can cause difficulty in getting the student packaged

I am also new to my position of FA admiistrator. What has been a tremendous help to ,e is the fact that I was familiar with the FAFSA process on a personal leel. I completed my forms and those of many family and friends so over the yars I was able to keep up with changes in eligibity and needed documentation
