Activity

I learned about the importance of using a variety of assessments to evaluate students, especially in an online learning setting. I also learned about the benefit rubrics can have when evaluating students.

 

I more thoroughly learned the difference between norm-referenced and criterion-referenced. I also learned that much of the evaluation I complete in my class is criterion-referenced, however the end of course assessment for my course, provided by PLTW, is norm-referenced.

 

I learned about the different types of formative assessments that can be used in an online learning platform such as pre-tests, 1-2-3, and muddiest tests. I learned about the purpose and benefit each of these may have for teaching and learning in an online learning setting.

 

I learned about the importance of fully understanding a tool, its function, and its use before utilizing it in an online learning platform. I also learned about many of the different ways e-learners can be evaluated and engage in check for understanding such as Webquests, quizzes, animiations, etc.

 

I learned about the Analysis, Design, Development and Evaluation steps involved in online learning. I also learned how each could be best implemented.

I learned about how to administer exams through online learning. I also learned the importance of modeling answers for students so they are aware of my expectations, as well as the correct answer(s).

I learned some information and pointers that will be helpful and allow me to expose my students to guest speakers using online learning. I also learned that synchronous chat provides students and teachers the opportunity to discuss topics in an alternative form to that used in a traditional classroom. 

I learned that navigational simplicity refers to the ability of an e-learning to move through the course accessing notes, links, and other features of the class.

I have learned about the ways to best organize a database and communicating system. I also learned about the different reasons why students may feel overwhelmed during online learning.

I learned the difference between synchronous and asynchronous discussions and the most appropriate time to use each when utilizing an online learning platform.
