It is important as instructors to remain professional when interacting in an online system. Being mind full of the tone of the email and not responding in an impolite way even if a sender of an email reacts in that way.

Online students can be successful when they organize how they intend to learn and use time management wisely. Procrastinated can lead to a student becoming overwhelmed and discouraged. It can impact on how much a student may retain.

Assessing students ability to utilize technology, by asking yes or no questions, can assist instructor in knowing how to assist students in becoming more comfortable. Provide different technological activities to be completed.

Use clear and concise communication. Be aware of how the tone of your written words may appear. Foster a sense of community in the class.

I learned that as an online instructor, it is important to set your class up in a well organized manner and do the work for the first time you teach it. Then you can utilize it for subsequent classes. As an online instructor is is imperative to continually motivate students and inform them of a plan to be successful. The students should tailor time management on what works best for them.

In an online environment, the instructor should provide opportunity for the students to critically think, the ability to build team work, and be in charge of how they will be successful. Proposing a problem to the students and have them work through and find the best course of how to solve said problem. Ask open ended questions to help facilitate critical thinking. Instructors need to realize they can learn from the student as a student can learn from the instructor.

Active learners take responsibility for their success. Instructors can review where resources can be located, study tips and tricks, and how to be successful at the beginning of the term. Instructors should be clear and concise when reviewing the information, however it is on the student to apply knowledge and have integrity and discipline to complete necessary work to pass.

Maintaining professionalism is imperative. Be prepared. Model for students in dress, starting on time, and language. Handle distractions and disruption in class immediately and in a professional manner.
