Having fun and keeping the students engaged will uaually keep them motivated. By keeping a casual atmosphere most students don't feel strained to learn the subject matter, the key is to keep it on track it is very easy for them to wander off mentally so challange them when you can.

Student trust is tops, with out trust you can't build a relationship with your students, and that is needed for them to want to learn our subject matter.

After each segment of instruction, I always ask a few questions about what was covered in the last few minutes. This lets me know who is really paying attention and who really is haveing trouble with the information. I don't want to continue until all understand the subject matter. At the end of the day again ask more questions and lastly start the new day with again more questions. I know the more I ask the more I get back in feed back and the better retention the students have.
In our rooms by having a relaxing, fun atmosphere students will learn more. We all like games and to have fun, so if this is incorporated into our class room activities learning is easier, fun, and the students will retain more information.

Our class room serves many purposes, it is how we interact with the students in our class rooms that create the creative enviroment of learning. If we use our rooms as learning tools, with visual aids, hands on tasks, and personal space, each student will make it their enviroment and learning will come easier to our students.
Being a good instructor means to be open, supportive, interactive, honest, and willing to listen and learn from your students. Not everything is one sided, we have to not only teach our students, but if we pay attention to our classes they can teach us new ways to look at our subject matter.

We all have a part in this program, the campus as a whole, the administrators, education managers, housing, facilities, instructors ect... to include the students. We seem to get alot of finger pointing on who is responsible for retension, just because the instructors have the face time doesn't mean that they need to be the soul savors for our students. The student needs to be willing to accept help from all persons they deal with at their school, as well as to acept that on occasions they (the student) needs to conform or correct a problem they may be pushing.… >>>

I feel that to have a successful intervention not only does the student have to want it, but the person trying to do the intervention needs to feel the wants and needs as well. Students can tell if your on the level with them or not and if they feel you're doing this just as a job they may not open up to let help them. We need to care about our students this will keep them interested in us and our curriculum.

Students are effected by everything around them, we as instructors can manage thier stress in our world, in our class rooms, by the elimination of stress factors. We have to make our enviorment a place they want to be, a place that to them is a sanctuary away from thier day to day stress. This keeps them on line to thier goals, and shows them they can suceed even when everything else seems tough.

We all are accountable for retension, instructors, management, and departments. We all have to work together to keep in touch with our students. Communication between departments helps greatly in this effort. Not everyone can see what is going on with the students, together we can combine our efforts to help our students help themselfs to a better education.
