Recods management is very important and you must decide how you will save student's work. Students should be taught file naming conventions so their teachers are not flooded with multiples files labled "untitled", making record keeping much more difficult.

E-mail will be the primary method of communication, so a classification system is a must to seperate Urgent messages from Junk. (FYI-I also use the Remind app and my high school students respond well to it).

E-Learning is independent, self directed learning, and self directed learning requires discipline. The same disrutive student behaviors you see in the classroom will still be… >>>

I learned that it is better to use asynchronous methods because it is more difficult to teach core concepts or new content using the "real-time" synchronous style. This eliminates the need to have all students in the learning space at the same time and lets students post and work at their own pace. Synchronous styles of learning are better suited for one-on-one situations with students, and videos enabled chat tools, like Zoom and Microsoft Teams, are a better option than a chat based system.

It is certainly harder to project your presense from behind a computer screen, but it is still possible to make meaninful and personal connections with everyone of our students. Student biograpghies are a great way for students to introduce themselves to their fellow classmates, and make sure to create a "hangout" chat room for students for questions and discussions not related to the subject matter.

I have pretty good tech skills and even though I teach High School students, who are fairly good at using technology,  I must never assume they understand and can navigate my online instruction and materials. I must make sure my CMS is effective and operating smoothly and I will always offer tech support to help my students access the content they will need to succeed in my online leasrning environment.
