LE, Very true. We have to do our part in the implementation in order for learning to be successful. Dr. Moody Crews
Pilar, Clear expectations are key. I do believe that active student participation truly does lead to higher levels of learning. Just lecturing will give them the information they need to pass the test - if the test is based only on your lectures. However, I'm not sure how much the student can actually put into practice because they have simply memorized what they need for the test. This is not learning. This is teaching to the test. I applaud your desire to make these changes. Dr. Moody Crews

Brandi, Very good points. Student motivation is an issue as is learning style. There really is no one teaching method that will work for all students. Your point about instructor technology capabilities is also well taken. Dr. Moody Crews

Diane, I certainly understand what you're saying and I agree. However, think about what we can do as instructors to help motivate our student. It really should be a joint effort between the student and the instructor. Dr. Moody Crews

Leslie , Changing the student's expectations of the class is a real possibility. Maybe a system change will not only attract the more serious students but will force all students to rise to the occasion. Dr. Moody Crews

LE, A heavy instructor accent is sometimes an issue for students. Many universities have implemented communication workshops to assist professors with this situation. Unfortunately, these workshops are not going to change overall accents. As with all other components of teaching, this is something the instructor must understand and be willing to tackle. Dr. Moody Crews
SUSAN, Absolutely. You can't reach the higher levels of Bloom's Taxonomy with pure lecture and regurgitation of concepts. Dr. Moody Crews
Tina, Very true. Higher levels of thinking equals higher levels of learning which equals a higher level of implementation of concepts. Dr. Moody Crews
Sherry , True. This active engagement leads to deeper learning. Dr. Moody Crews
SUSAN, Wonderful. I'm thrilled that you are taking these components and implementing them into your classroom. Now if we could convince some of our colleagues to do the same thing our students would benefit greatly. Good Job! Dr. Moody Crews
