Lisa, Absolutely. Great attitude. Your students will benefit from your willingness to try something new. Dr. Moody Crews
Glenn, I agree. Students are used to being lectured to and then taking a test. If we allow that to continue to be the norm in our classrooms learning will pretty much stay where it is now. When you think about it, every day there is more to learn yet we are teaching the same way we did years ago. If we do this, we have got to be missing something. Dr. Moody Crews
V., I'm not sure about antiquated but I am sure the concept will grow as our knowledge grows. Hopefully the thought, which is common in education, that this is just another idea that will go away, won't prevent you from trying something that has been proven to work. As instructors, we have a professional responsibility to use the techniques that are best for our students, not what's best for the instructor or what the instructor is comfortable with. Dr. Moody Crews
Christen, Do you think your classes would work on the flipped classroom model? Dr. Moody Crews
Richard, All good points. I wonder if your son's math teacher would feel that it would take a concerted effort on the part of the teacher as well as the high school as a whole. I wonder if your student's parents might think their son or daughter would benefit if your class was flipped? Just something to think about. Dr. Moody Crews
Nathan, Very good points. We should always work on improving the way we teach and learn. Dr. Moody Crews

Mark, I use PowerPoint as well. Recently students have expressed that they are pretty well "PowerPointed Out". Even though that's not a real word, hopefully you get the point. Think of some other ways of accomplishing the same thing in your classroom. Dr. Moody Crews

James, You are correct and I appreciate your suggestion that instructors should screen the videos before students view them. Dr. Moody Crews

Beverly , These are all wonderful ideas. Good job of thinking outside the box. Dr. Moody Crews

Jean, These are all great ideas. Have you thought about some less traditional activities that students could do outside the classroom. Reading, outlining, listing, etc. are all fine tools but think about some more experiential things that students might be able to do. They could still bring that learning experience into the classroom to discuss and share with other students. Dr. Moody Crews
