I like posting discussion points and place the class in groups. Each group then finds answers to certain quesitons and relays the information to the rest of the class. I try to pose questions to create discussion and dialogue within the class. I attempt to be more of a offical, like a referee in an effort to allow students to engage each other.

I have found tutoring also works. I have had students who spoke multi-languages in the same class to volunteer and help thier classmates. I do try to refer them to any support services that the school may have.

Yes I agree Holly, application is very important for students. Often times older students need that relationship between the assignment and how it applies to thier goals or reasonings.

With learning styles, I try to vary my assignments with different activities that challenge each style. Some of my assignments we try to be very "hands on" for those students that need that stimulation. While other assignments might be more visual in nature. Often times I will try to give audio recordings and movies for other students. It seems to work pretty well.

I tend to beleive that the brain can never truly be 100% explored. Maybe it was by desgin that each person has so many different abilities and areas of strength that others do not. I wonder how we could ever truly find the hidden pieces of our brain that make us all tick? Hopefully science will find the code.

Learning is good, and can be very expressive and enjoyable for those who are motivated to obtain it. I have had students that came across as if they did not want to learn. They had this air about them that demonstrated a reluctance to want to learn.

So far it has been more of a deeper apprecation for my older students and some strategies I can use to keep them motivated and engaged.

That is gospel, your statement in regards to failing to plan. Im sure we can all remember those classes where we didint spendthe adequate time planning for our coourse and we show uo truly not ready. It has happneded to me and I learned a very long time ago to stay at least one day ahead in planning for the nect class. I am aware that things do happen but students should not be affected due to our challenges. Wonderful statement.

I also have found that group based learning is very effective. Walking around the room and wathcing those students engaged in thinking, sharing and discusssing can give you as the instructor, a gauge as to your lesson or assignment. It is often times refreshing to see students become so engaged they begin arguing. You cant ask for nothing bette than to see students totally engaged in the activity and they are willing to voice thier opiions. Wonderful tool.

I have been teaching adult learners for nearly 10 years and I often find myself more interested in what they can teach me. I find myself, in the beginning of the course, spending much of our time discussing their careers and experiences. We try to turn those experiences into informational bits that all students can use as tools. My role is more of a facilitator than a teacher. I try to learn how and what they think, there experiences and their trials. Often times, I use older students as my sounding board for insight and opinions. They often times are… >>>
