I believe the first day of class is the most important day in terms of setting the tone. As this course mentions, the importance of greeting the students, giving an intro of yourself and allowing for introductions of who they are seems to break the ice. I also have found giving students an intro of what they will be learning throughout my term and how it will be applied in their chosen career field on the first day of class gives my lectures meaning and importance. The students mentality changes from this being a required course for them to finish… >>>

In all my previous posts I have been writing about how good it is to hear about all this regulation to protect our students, the consumers of our product. Before this course I did not put any thought about what goes on prior to a student enrolling. To hear that there is regulation on false advertisement and, in this specific area of the course, privacy, incentivizing recruiters, and even location of ads is extremely relieving to me. Students should be respected and not be preyed upon, to know that there is consequence to those who would risk taking such actions… >>>

Wow, there is so much regulation I did not know about regarding the admissions, advertisement, and recruitment of the students on campus. I have definitely seen the advertisements in magazines and TV. I have also seen our hard-working admissions staff conducting tours and holding recruitment sessions. I never really thought about what was being told to the potential student. It made me think, if I was a student coming to different campuses what would sway me? Putting myself in a perspective student's shoes, I can see how important a schools advertised success rates and information are to recruitment. With that… >>>

If I had to summarize all that I have read in the second module of this course it would be to ethical and just be honest to the student. If the school is not advertising ethically (i.e. falsifying percentages, unrealistic guarantees, etc.) it will eventually hurt the school in the long run anyways. What I mean is yes, the school may get students in initially with false information, but when the student graduate and don't find the promised jobs, or finish and cannot complete the guaranteed state exams they will talk. And with the ease of social media today, the… >>>

So far this course has been very eye-opening. I am fairly new to teaching and have never thought about the obligations and standards my institution has to meet in order to run. I knew there was a lot happening behind the scenes of the classroom, this course is giving me good information and detail. Thank you.

As a new instructor I was so overwhelmed. It seemed like everything was coming at me so fast. Though I know the material I was about to start teaching I felt the hardest part was preparation for classes. Thankfully, the previous instructor left all the previous material (PowerPoint, handouts, test, etc) that I used as an outline. I did not try to "reinvent the wheel" and it was of tremendous help. I cant even imagine how much more overwhelmed I would have been if I had to start from scratch. My advise to all new instructors, at least for the… >>>
