The Lesson Planning Class brings back memories of when I first started teaching. We have to remember that students have different learning styles and we as instructors have to do what it takes to reach as many of the learning styles in each lesson as possible.

When I have a classroom of 28 students in Document Processing I, my students see document processing in many different stages. I emphasize that this course is really keyboarding using the touch method and using orange skins which in the end will increase their keying speed and accuracy immensily provided they follow instructions. In this class we will also learn to format business letters, reports, memos, and ruled tables. I bring concrete concepts to abstract thinking by teaching how each documnet will be used in their choosen career field. Is this what you mean by what role concrete thinkg play in… >>>

Most of my adult learners have a lot on their plate. They are single-parents,have school full-time, have a full-time job, plus some are taking care of their parents and some have major health problems. With all this, most students are organized--meaning that they have their homework completed before class, come to class on time with a good attitude, and are extremely motivitated to learn.I love teaching adult learners.

When my students get tired or lose focus, I give each student a 3 by 5 index card and ask each student what they have learned. With this exercise they really see how much they accomplished in accounting, comptuer classes, business communications, business law, and professional development. Another strategy I use is to ask each student to tell me one new piece of information they have learned at the end of class. The students know at the beginning of class what the lesson objective is and they know my goal is for every student in the class learn at least… >>>

Most of the students in our college are there to learn a new skill so they will be qualified to enter more than one field. Some have lost their jobs due to downsizing or factories closing, now they are fearful but need to learn new skills. The adults want the needed supplies to be ready and the instructor to present the course content so that most learning styles will be addressed. Adults want the lab experience to be similar to the work setting or pretend like when they are doing lab that they are on the job. They want class to… >>>

In a classroom we have 4 styles of learning and 3 ways students learn. We as instructors must reach as many students as possible therefore, we must try to reach at least 2 learning styles each class period provided the stubject content allows this diversification. I use a demonstration of a problem in Accounting on the white board first, lecture next, and then I use Excel and a projector to show the worked probelm on the screen. Then I allow the students to pick a problem for me to work and we work the problem together. This seems to work.… >>>

When I meet the class for the first time I am nervous as well as they; therefore, I introduce myself and tell about by work experiences then we play a game where the classmates try to find people who like these certain items. The one who finds the most in 15 minutes wins two movie tickets. This gets the class to move around and get to know one another. Then they introduce themselves and tell about their life experiences if they choose. After this we take a break then I pass out the class syllabus and go over the rules… >>>

I like to introduce myself, tell a little about my teaching experience, work experience, etc. then I call the roll. I give the students an index card where they put their full name, address, phone number, e-mail address, and any information they want me to know. I give them a second card where they tell me what name they want to be called. Then we go around the room in radom order and each student introduces themselves to the class. Then I hand a game search of questions so they can get to know one another. This really helps the… >>>

Planning and preparation is the essential elements in successful teaching. Once you have the lesson planned and the preparation materials made all that is left to do is show up early for class and use PowerPoint Presentation or white board to present the material then have a hands-on project to re-enforce the concept taught.
My Instructional Style consists of providing a safe and supportative environment where encouragement, support, and fairness prevail.I try to teach to all the student learning styles plus giving as much individual help as requested by the students.
I believe that community outreach brings people together and helps with retention. Students need to know that they have a stake in the student body as well as in the community and the class. Bonding is essential to keeping students in school.
