@gfisher01I agre with you completely. The more we know about our students the better we can serve them. The all have issues that would be diffucult for many of us to deal with. The students need to be encouraged to be successful.

How do other teachers deal with students who have severe personal challenges?

It seems that in my online classes I have more deaths and family issues then I saw in a regular classroom. In most cases I allow the students extra time to complete their work. In other more severe cases I refer to an administrator for more information before making a determination. I am very careful not put anything in writing to the student that I don't believe him.

The course was a good referesher in all of the legal aspects of higher education. There were some topics that continually need to be put forth to remind all employees.

How to maintain energy in a 4 hour class

When teaching math in 3 to 4 hour blocks you can break up into groups after a lesson and practice some of the problems. I try to treat a 3 hour class as 3 one hour class with 3 group work sessions.

Great Course

This is the second course I have taken. I have been in teaching at the public high school and college level for over 30 years. These courses show that an "old dog" can learn new tricks, or just be reminded that what he is doing is good. It is great to have a refresher course in teaching techniques. Many older teachers are offended that they have to take these courses, I find them rewarding and helpful.
