Not having an office, I don't have to worry about cleaning, but the same holds true for the class which technically is our office

I think that our admissions department could benefit from this lesson. Everything makes sense. I feel that my companies admissions department is just pushing students into the program and because of that we have a large# of students that do not complete. I will try to add some of these techniques into my teaching
At my company instructors are prohibited from asking students if they have had problems in the past or IEP's. We often get more information from past instuctors. Is this really law (as we are told) or is this just a missunderstanding of a law and company policy?
I have noticed a large # of our students have trouble understanding the questions becaue their vocabulary is limited. Once they have the question read or rephrased to them, they understand what is being asked.
I am guilty of asking questions of students that were not paying attention in class.
Listening to our students and helping them deal with their stressors can be beneficial to helping them learn and even help keep them in school.
Many of our students are young (right out of high school) and not prepared to deal with the every day stresses that most adults are used to dealing with on their own. This is an obstacle to learning and retention. Just being an ear to our students and letting them know that we understand what they are going through can be beneficial.
Building a rapport with students should be something that an instructor strives to do. If we can build a rapport, then we can build trust. If the trust is there they will reach their full potential
I have found that simply respecting our students often build rapport. Even when I don't agree with how they dress, act or other. Young men and women are seeking respect (think back to how we felt at that age). If we don't respect them as human beings and individuals then we loose their respect and everyone looses.
