Continually developing teaching skills is one of the keys to engaging the students in the learning process and ultimately success in the classroom. The successful teacher should always be improving their teaching skills and one of the ways to do that is to have a professional development plan. A yearly plan should be written to ensure key components are addressed. There are two key components to an effective faculty development plan: faculty in-service and professional growth. A common mistake in a professional development plan is that not all components are represented. In-services are sponsored by the institution and focus… >>>

That is a tricky issue. But, we have the same issue when it comes to the residential classroom and papers/assignments that are not completed in class. Bottom line is if you have a student that wants to cheat, they will find a away. What they don't realize is the only person they are hurting is themselves.
Podcasting is a great tool to use. Another one that I use in my class is video creation through animoto.com. The student identifies slides and music that illustrate their thoughts and ideas on a topic. My students enjoy their Animoto assignment a great deal.
Wow, I imagine that would be very exciting to the students. Great idea!
Unfortunately, cheating is everywhere, not just in the online classroom. Thanks for your posting Lisa.
You are not being annoying Deborah, you are showing your students that you care about their success (although I agree that some of them may think it is annoying :-)). I would also encourage you to set deadlines for your students and make it clear they cannot turn in assignments late unless there is mitigating circumstances that they have talked to you about. I have found that to be very helpful in getting the students to stay on task. Putting it off until the very end of the class is never good for the student or the teacher!
That is a great suggestion Jennifer! Thanks for sharing it with the group!
You bring up some great points Monique. Certainly knowing the writing styles of your students can be a great way to begin to detect cheating.
You provided some great tips on identifying cheating in the classroom. I especially like the idea of getting a writing sample to compare at the beginning of class. Thanks for sharing!
It is still interesting information. Thanks
