Activity

Overall, I found this module intresting, & even though some items like Syllibus' are alreay established, they can be improved on. As well, cirriculum, goals & objectives, Learning activities, Methods of instruction, & Lesson plans, all of which can be improved on.

  • Using a text book is where I am at now on both courses I teach, and have selected the pertanant information, & added supplementry content, & activities.

  • I already have goals & objectives established, but should always be looked at for improvement.  These can be improved on by general directional indicators, using the A,B,C,D rule.

In this module, one of the things that I have always felt, & was reminded in this module is to not asume you are the smartest in the class. I have learned things from students as well.

Other things that I have taken away in this module are the following, & how I intend to use them, & or continue to use them.

  • Be a model to the students. Dress appropriatly, language is to be clean & professional, NEVER, use profanity, Conduct ones self as professional, & bee honest. Be on time, & manage time. Be a leader, be

This module makes good sense to me, as I have used this methodology to some extent in my teaching.

I plan to use support materials , notes, & assessment in my classes lesson plans as follows:

  • By using lecture notes. Will help keep the lecture on track.
  • Worksheets for Formitive assessments( As we move along, in the course).
  • Keeping each lesson seperate & keeping the lesson plan simple, for easy following.
  • Continue using powerpoint presentations, clearer hand outs, & listing the materials / technology on the lesson plan.
  • Formitive assessments will be in the form of tests, & worksheets,

In the Lesson Plan, Objectives & Standards are so very important, as they out line for you & the student, what they will be learning, & how they will be learning it.

Items that I have taken away from this module, & I intend to use are:

Objectives:

  • Will define the porpose of the lesson.
  • The reasoning behind the lesson.
  • Taxonomy is to be used to be very clear, as it is a "commom language"
  • Types of objectives, to be considered are.... Factual, Conceptual, Proceedureal, & Matacognitive. I see the ones I would use most in the classes I teach

I have learned that lesson plans are a vital part of teaching. They keep you on track, keep you focused, Help keep the class moving forward if you are not there & a substitute is needed. As well, they help you document what you re teaching that day, for administration, when needed. They help keep ypu organized, which is paramount.

I will be generaly formatting my lesson plans as follows:

Instructor name:

Class title:

Title of lesson:

Time requited:

Concept of the lesson:

Objectives of the lesson:

Rationale of what the lesson covers: ( How it applies / relates… >>>

Changes that I entend to & are currently implementing are.

  • Clearer grading matrix's & ruberics.
  • Reading my students better.
  • Implementing lesson plan from a specific text book very relevemnt & current to the course I am teaching.
  • Using more visuals in the class settings.

I have found that only pre planned abcences, or proven issues that arose just before the test, should be reasons to allow the test ot be taken after the test deadline, and then, be sure to chage the test for thst student, or students.

It is very important to be very clear on how a grade is earned, thru rubricks, and clear laid out scoring sheets, this is very important in lab situatitions, where physical tasks are performed by the student, and then assessed by the instructor.

Changing or editing your content, depending on how students react, or respond, is key, for retension. reading your students on a continual basis is key to this.

I had not heard of the 10,20,30 rule, & I entend to use this in future powerpoints.  I also intend to make sure I have working dry erase pens, & not search for them during class.  I found if interesting that writing on the board as I discuss it is more informative that pre writing it, I intend to change my aproach to this.
