Going over expectations that are not being met should not occur continually. Leaders mush have a way to break this cycle so the infections of the person does not spread to others.
Being open to hear the criticism and wanting to make it better will enable your leadership style to flourish. If you act like you don't care, people won't care.
For learning styles I always recommend "Make it Stick" so educators and students can grasp the idea of how true learning can occur in any environment.
Many of my most courageous moments were when I had to use my emotional intelligence that went against my historical upbringing. These decisions helped me break-down barriers and increase respect in the work-place.
All positions at the school need to show some leadership abilities. Finding workers who don't care will destroy someone's motivation very quickly.
What do you want your obituary to say? Who is going to stand up and discuss all of these ideas that you never brought to the table. Focus one the end :)
Mentoring will help leadership grow in many ways that aren't truly discussed. This person can give advice and listen to ideas as someone who has been there before.
Assessment of what is actually going on is necessary for the leader to make a correct decision. If the leader is not tied into the followers, the assessment will not be correct and as a result, a poor choice may be made.
If followers know you are buying into what they go through on a daily basis, they will know your passion is with theirs. If you do not show it, even though it is not "'your style", you will have to battle it to get buy-in.
I know that my leadership skills are strong when the going is good. However, in bad times, I try to do too much, to have too much influence and slip back into the micro part of this.
