Activity

As a cosmetology instructor, planning and preparation are essential for creating a structured and effective learning environment. Being prepared builds confidence in both the instructor and the student. Careful planning enhances the overall learnong experience. helping students retain knowledge and develop practical skills.

By first building strong relationships, we as instructors can encourage students to be more open and this gives them a more fulfilling educational experience. Keeping your lessons relevent and engaging can help student retention because they can actually see themselves in that job. Addresseing challenges early on  can help you connect with your students in a way that keeps them interested. We are in the position to guide them through their careers and this helps student retention.

Putting personality into your classes helps to engage students and make them feel connected to you and the content of the class. Telling personal stories is what helps the students apply knowledge into their real lives. When you engage them in this way they have a better chance of grasping the material and remembering it.

This unit taught me that there are many ways to engage student even online. By giving constant activities to help them engage in class and with each other. Group activities er a great way to accomplish this. One way to do a real life activity would be to have student take before and after photos of their clients like they would in the real world. Finished product clients gives them confidence and measures their growth.

In this course I learned that a large amount of the population including men women and children have developed PTSD in response to trauma they endured at one point in their life. Some indications can include but are not limited to, depression, anxiety, irritability and even physical symptoms. Trauma is defines as a deeply depressing or disturbing experience that can be personal or observed. Our job is to help them overcome the challenges that PTSD presents so they can be successful in the classroom and in their future careers.

What I learned from this module is be very clear with expectations and objectives from the beginning. Your syllabus should be thorough and include all of the course requirements, expectations including grades and dress code as well as what we will be doing in the course of this class. Students must function within three categories of learning including, cognitive, social and psychomotor.

This module helped me understand that I must be a model, a manager and a motivator for my students. Knowing your subject matter is very important, but knowing your students names and things about them is also important. You can model to your students by being on time, dressing professionally and speaking with confidence. By being a manager to your students, you are ensuring that everything comes together; their knowledge, their skills and their success. You can not become their friend, but be sympathetic and compassionate to their issues. I also learned that your instructional style combines competency and personality… >>>

This course was helpful in educating instructors on the diversity of their classes and how to handle that diversity. Students come from all walks of life and are often motivated and learn in different ways. Us as instructors are trusted to provide students with individualized learning plans. By catering our teaching to meet the needs of each student they feel more heard and actively involved in their education. Addressing issues such as impersonal problems, people problems, issues with rules and limitations help the student adapt to the environment making learning easier and more enjoyable.
