I have learned that when evaluating student posts a rubric can make the task easier and more consistent.  The instructor should set guidelines for posts and student interaction.

Communication rules should be clearly stated in the syllabus.  Students will be of various ages and that should be taken into account when communicating with students.

I have learned to establish guidelines for students concerning communication.  It is also important to establish consequences for those students who do not follow the guidelines.

I have learned that it is important to consider all the pros and cons of each form of technology tool when considering what is best for communication in an online course.  It is also important to evaluate the effectiveness of the technology tool at the end of the course to ensure it was effective.

It is essential in an online classroom to engage students as early as possible by sending a welcome email and introducing yourself to the class.  The more engaged a student is the more successful they will be in the class.

Feedback is essential to updating a course to improve student learning but should not just be from students.

Asynchronus format definitely has an advantage over synchronus with students today.  I do believe synchronus format can also be appropriate at times.

The technology tools you use when teaching should enhance student learning.  Even when facilitating a class, students still need some human interaction.

I need to utilize multiple methods of evaluation when it comes to revising the design of a course.  Student evaluations are not enough to base changes upon.

One thing stood out to me about feedback, it is not meant to justify the grade but to improve student learning.  Rubrics ensure all students are graded the same, it also makes it easier for a student to see areas where they can improve.
