Many students have never attended the type of school a career school is. They expect to be spoon fed and to forget everything after they take a test. Learning a career involves learning consequence of action and learning to think. That is a new concept for many of them, so keep giving them responsibility for knowing the chapter material, in the long run they will be grateful.

Melody, using as many of the senses as possible is a good teaching strategy. Involving the students as often as possible is an effective approach. I particularly like the "Smarter Than a MA 100 Student", and I'm sure they do as well.

Having the attitude that you can learn from your students models to them that when they graduate, they should seek to be a lifelong learner. Thanks for sharing!

Creating positive bonds also models how to work effectively with others who are different from them when they enter the career job they have trained for, so that is an added benefit.
It's amazing how some simple pictures and a grid can teach people complex scientific terms. I like that you let the students create the pictures, as it gives them ownership of the content. I haven't used the larger post its, but will try them. Thanks for sharing your adaptation.

Todd, teaching is as much about creating relationships as it is about teaching skills and knowledge. Wise teachers use fun and real life examples as you do to make a difference. I'd like to be a student in your class.
Adults love Jeopardy style activities because the format is familiar and fun for them. It is amazing how involved and competitive they get and it definitely is a motivator. Continue to strive for involvement, and you will find many successes.

Christina, many people think games just waste time, but if you use them correctly, you can reinforce terminology much faster and easier than using only lecture. They become interactive learning activities and not games and can be quite an effective teaching tool.

Priyal, it is an excellent practice to always seek new ways to help students interact with content. That way they are gaining knowledge and experience working with a variety of people who are different from them(very much like the job world).

I agree they are great reinforcement and review of areas of need for students and a fun way to do it.
