A recurring theme, not just in this module, is communication.  Making sure the lines of communications are open and used by the instructor can make the difference in student success.

Engaging students through conversation in an online course can be both a good and bad thing. It allows for the more introverted students the opportunity to engage in discussions without the stress that can come from an in-person discussion. For me, as an instructor, it is important to encourge the discussions and be careful with wording. Encourage, while still ensuring the students get correct information.

Creating a relationship with students, even though it may be only online, is still as important for an online course as it is for an in-person course. 

I have learned it is important to be very familiar with the technology being used. Not just how I will be using it, but how the students will be using it.  I like to go through and check out every area of the CMS, if I have any questions,  find any available training on it. I also like to look at thing from the "Student View", to make sure I can give instructions that make sense from their side of things. Keeping the students involved in the lessons is also key. The more they interact with the instruction, the better… >>>
