Activity

The goal is to develop intrinsic motivation but extrinsic motivation and rewards are a pathway to intrisic motivation.

I found myself thinking about a few new ways to implement active learning to improve security and autonomy for the student. A few take home activities for my classes are mind-mapping at the end of class, pair questioning, and short quizzes at the beginning of each class (perhaps a review of last week or reading content).

Group activities can further drive active collaborative and active learning. I plan to add activities to my courses that challenge my students to think critically about their topics.

I am adding active learning activities to my current and future courses that align with my topics and requirements for the student's enhancement. The use of rubrics will give guidance in my grading.

It is important to explain the purpose of the activity. Active learning can be ineffective if the student lacks the understanding and purpose of the activity.

Active learning takes the learner from passive learning to an active enviroment where the student can apply problem solving and relate the course content to real life situations and application.

Online learning provides flexibility for students in an environment that has increased demands for those who have work, family, and other responsibilities. One of the biggest challenges with online learning is time management.

Understanding why a student has become inactive or disengaged is important. It is a skill to be an instructor who can read the room and adjust according to the tone. Watching for students that fall off and making sure that all students get the experience they need to learn. Life challenges can also affect the connections and attitudes a student will form about the course.

Both active learning and passive learning are important. Passive learning is important to get direct information out quickly. Active learning can be used to further develop the student's understanding of the content that has been presented to them. It can further support repetition and memory of content.

In this module active learning was the main topic. It is important to plan for active learning during your lesson planning. Involving the students in their learning requires their commitment and engagement. I often create activities each week for my students. Moving forward I will make sure that the activities give my students the opportunity to commit and become involved in the activity content.  For example, instead of asking the student to define a topic ask them how the topic affects them in the learning environment.
