I think that defining what the problem is sometimes gets looked over. If you have a solid assessment of the actual problem you can systematically formulate a plan to solve it.

Learning about different kinds of intelligence is a great way to analyze how a students personality may benefit from a certain kind of teaching style. Also  introducing reflective thinking into our coursework should be greatly beneficial to our students.

As teachers, we should be communicating to our students that judgment is an important component of critical thinking, that must be  developed through experience.  Students usually don't have  this experience at the start of their education. We as educators can provide resources for opportunities to experience real-life situations through service learning and fieldwork experience.

Critical thinking skills can be a key to a students success in their careers as well as their lives in general. It is important that we as instructors help them develop these skills.

If the instructor is motivated the students will more likely be motivated. Intrinsic motivation can be jumpstarted if necessary by extrinsic motivation.

Students are much more motivated if the class offers them security and autonomy.

Active learning can be very effective if it is planned properly and the objectives and relevance made clear to the students.

Active learning is a solid approach to teaching.  Students retain more when actively using and manipulating information. Having taught culinary classes for over a decade it is apparent during their lab practicals when they are flying solo that they gain a lot of knowledge from doing so.

By using scaffolding my students will have a little reinforcement which will allow them to start remembering with out the use of the scaffold. Using mnemonics will be a fun and helpful lesson assistant for my students as well helping them retain information.

Using Pre testing and frequent review as a teaching tool can be very effective in any classroom.
