It is important for instructors to have flexibility in their teaching style. Setting expectations for quality of work can help emphasize that while I am trying to make learning fun and engaging, it is still work and requires commitment. 

Active learning is helpful for a variety of learning styles. I can see how I can apply this to my specialty. 

I have always enjoyed the autonomy of online learning. But, I need to remember some students struggle with self paced learning. As an instructor, I need to help them set goals and time frames to make sure they succeed. 

I think finding reputable sources is an important skill for modern students. There is so much information on the internet that isn't reputable to use for online classes and discussion boards. 

Sometimes the education will be more than just the assigned subject. Teaching the students good communication skills and time management is also super important. 

I think it is really important to remember that everyone learns differently and at their own pace. It may not be obvious is someone is having a hard time processing information. It is important to find out if students need more resources or accommodations if they are struggling. 

I liked the breakdown of types of learners (noisy, quiet, procrastinators). I have experienced some of these types of learners in online classes I have taken. 

It is important to make students feel welcome and confident to bolster discussion participation. 

It is important to share our background and learn a little about our online students. 

I am nervous about setting up my first course. But, this highlighted that prep and practice will make it easier.
