This was particularly relevant to me because it helps me deal and relate to students better, be they with learning disabilities, coming from different backgrounds or re-entering the workforce.

I've observed that if I "rope" inattentive students into a discussion on a regular basis I somehow force them to listen. Eventually, they become more participative.

I like varying the styles to catch every student's interest. I am currently teaching Cost Control and I split up the class time between lectures with power point presentation, seat work, work experience sharing and board work. This way, I am able to gauge the student's grasp of the subject matter and am able to identify who I need to do one-on-one work with.

For some of my classes, I invite alumni who are successful in the industry as models for my students. It gives the course relevancy and they pick up tips and cues as to how to further their own careers in the industry.
I have proven it effctive to use games for content review with the students. It tests their knowledge while having fun.

It is important for the instructor to be on top of his/her game everyday. It is the educator's responsibility to provide the learning contracted with the student all the time.
