What does the blinker system track and how do instructors use it to get support? Is it an early alert tool?
I'm a strong believer in the individual's right to fail - assuming that they have enough information to make an informed decision. Similarly, we shouldn't judge a graduating students choice of jobs. Even basic jobs within an industry may be value added jobs for that person - one that they would not have been able to get without the training they received from the school.
Is it a good thing to work very hard to keep students in the program who belong in a different program or industry? How do you know they belong elsewhere?
What does your school do that you consider "above and beyond"?

How are departments held accountable for retention? Are results posted publicly? Are the results factored into performance reviews?

Does this multiple step process really work? How many students actually meet with each of the people? If I'm dropping out my attention is on fixing my problems and focusing on the future, not jumping through a series of hoops.

How are the students reacting to construction? In my experience, some will complain about the inconvenience and those who are nearing graduation will complain that the improvements are coming too late? How are you communicating with the students about progress and future plans?
