About me

Activity

Much of what I have learned was knowledge that I developed during the 7 years I have been teaching in the online environment. Perhaps this information would have been most beneficial "before" I started teaching online rather than after 7-8 years of teaching online. This material merely reinforced what I have experienced.

Since I teach English composition courses, I have always known that it is critical for students to understand the importance of ownership of other peoples' work, and I have always stressed this. The only additional thing that I feel I can share is the reason why the copyright laws were created in the first place. We already discuss the consequences (mainly of plagiarism) through case studies.

I enjoyed this course, but I am short on words. I guess I am all blogged out. I just completed a post-graduate course in Computers and Composition and blogging was a part of the course requirement. I had to complete 15 entries for my blog and I created a new blog for my 27 page research project, so I would now like to take a rest. Don't bother to comment to my blog because I am not going to respond.

I might try that course out. I am getting tired of students posting responses that have no substance to them.

Discussion Comment

@YOSCHR0409 : I don't see any challenges of handling a small online class of 2-4 students especially when my classes involve writing. My biggest challenge is when the classes are 10+ and I have to deal with loads of written assignments to grade (including the discussions).

I think that the smaller the group, the greater the opportunity to tap into areas of the lesson that are not covered or to be able to expand our communications into other areas of the subject matter.

Even though I have been teaching in the online environment for the past 6 years, there was still a lot to be learned. Not only did this course confirm some of my own common sense practices, but it helped me become more confident as an online educator. Now I know some things that I didn't know before.
