Preparation is key. Arriving early to greet students and get a feel for the temperature of the room is a good recipe for success once instruction is to begin.

What I learned is that professionalism sets the tone and you have to lead by example. It doesn't always mean being any certain way, as different students require different approaches but it does mean setting a standard that can be universally appreciated by the class.
