Telling this "story" was in itself a learning tool that can be used to facilitate learning.  I learned that this was not my preferred teaching style but still appreciate this so that I can use this if necessary in the future.

There were many useful areas of this content:

  • Use multiple senses to help student retain content of material taught
  • Education is lifelong
  • Use and develop soft skills for successful professional behaviors
  • Have a PLAN B
  • Pre-test may be useful tool when class does not seem ready for material
  • Point system may be beneficial grading system

Discussion Comment

Good point.  If students are returning to higher education, they may have experience with continuing educaiton where power point handouts are the norm.  They are probably used to taking notes on them.  If one does the same in class, I can see where they would want to concentrate on the power points.  I agree with you - tell them they must not rely soley on the power point when studying the course content.

Felt this course is teh basis/foundation to help me help students be successful throughout the year and ultimately in their career!

Areas that were helpful in this course were in how to present questions to students.  The flow of the material is helpful as well in terms of progressing a student to higher critical thinking.  I found this course comprehensive for use of learning styles and bloom's taxonomy.

I have learned that as an instructor, to maximize my effectiveness and to improve student successes with learning the material, I will do well to incorporate a learning assessment tool on each student. This would be done ideally prior to or at orientation into the program.  Do any of you have experience with the online assessment tools identified in this module?
