If we consider adjusting any of the figures that make up our standard cost of attendance, we must document the student file w/ information supporting the adjustment.

There are many nationalities that are not mainland US that would still qualify as us citizens or legal residents. a lot of the islands in the pacific since some are us territories their citizens don't need to provide proof of citizenship

there are a ton of documents required for verification for the student to qualify for financial aid. Not only for qualification but also to make sure that everything that the student filled into the application is correct and legitimate.

As a former college student, now I understand why the high schools and parents are so keen on starting a FAFSA application so early. There are a lot of things that can happen and the sooner you have the information the sooner things can be fixed. Also, to gain a better understanding of the process, because most application can be lengthy and require a lot of information that a student may not possess

Comment on Dan Morrill's post: SAME!! The one thing I understood from all of this, is just to do everything by the law, and not commit any mistakes and or do fraud. The penalties are insane, especially if you don't return money to the federal government.

This sections was intensively long, but extremely insightful. There are many which I did not know and came to realize how important and meticulous this whole process is. Everything must be reported to the department, from a change in ownership to how we structure the institution as a whole. Also, the ways we can lose FSA funds through all the findings we have to avoid and or work that they don't happen. Even when the Department finds abnormal use of the funds and abnormal growth, they will audit the institution.

Comment on Gavin Thompson's post: I agree, there are so many rules and regulations that must be followed. Not only that but processes the school must go through after a student leaves the school, whether they withdraw or graduate from their selective programs and or careers. Also, the forms they have to sign and acknowledge once they graduate from the school.

Well, we don't have FAFSA yet but I am doing training ahead of time for when we do.  The one subject I had no idea on was the repack of the students. I didn't know we had to repackage the student if they are enrolled in a program that jumps from one academic year to the next.
