ED105 came at a perfect time in my career as a teacher, and has already helped me step up my performance as a teacher.  I've become very comfortable with the material that I'm teaching but now I am more equipped to properly organize this in a way that will make really good use of class time and make me a much more effective teacher.  This was my favorite course thus far.

I've started making false statements and then saying "right?" to the whole class.  One person will say "right".. and then the rest will say it too.. And then I'll say "so everyone is in agreement?"  And they'll all in unison say "yes!".

And then I'll shoot them all this mock-angry look (they laugh at this because they know I love them) and I'll say "wrong!"

I've done it a few times and it's amazing how quickly they stopped just giving knee-jerk reactions and really thinking about what they're about to say.

 

There are many ways an instructor could motivate his/her students, whether by their energy, the learning activities they plan, the visual aids they use, etc. Aside from that, I also believe in trying to spark a sense of motivation within the student themselves, along the lines of that old saying: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime" I suppose that by using the methods I first mentioned, an instructor is inspiring self motivation by example, but I think that speaking to students about… >>>
