Online learning presents a lot of challenges for a student. It appears as if it's easier, more accessible, and a relief compared to being in the classroom.  But the fact is, there is a lot of responsibility online and time management is critical.  There is not an unlimited amount of time.  Some places even announce "at your own pace" just to get students in the door.  This really isn't true as expectations are high, timed, and mostly unmovable.  Students need to know what they are getting into and what they're responsibilities are. 

Students need to be at the center of their learning - not the teacher.  If THEY are in the center of their learning - they will take ownership of it and grow - whereas if the teacher was the center - the only thing they will accomplish is what the teacher instructs them to do.  

Students who do online work need to have essential skills in reading and writing more so than students who always have classes face-to-face. They need to have the skill sets to work independently.  And, if not, the teacher needs to be aware of this so they can build structure into the courses to help make the students successful in the areas they might fall.  

I have learned that just because they are separated from the teacher face-to-face, it doesn't mean students don't face challenges online.  They still need to be assessed to figure out what they will need help with online.

Learned about setting expectations for the students and making sure they know what to do in order to be successful.

Learned about different teaching strategies, goal settings, and how to improve upon my instruction
