I like having good objectives and standards. It gives clear expectations and focused instruction. Having clear objectives will allow for the assessment of student progress and continual improvement.

Comment on Frances Diaz's post: Well said, I agree with that a hundred percent.

Lesson plans help keep time managed and topics organized, and clear guidance. I also like a pre test to see what the students know already so i can build on the knowledge they have.

I have found through teaching numerous technicians in the field it really helps when u can simplify a lot of the vocabulary into relatable terms that the student is familiar with. Example a contactor, a contactor is a switch, most people know what a switch is which now makes it easier to understand and gives you a term that's relatable and something to build on. I have found that if u can simplify things to relatable terms that the student can understand they seem way more motivated to learn because things seem easier for them to understand and relate. The refocus strategy seems it would be helpful to keep both the instructor and students inspired to want to come back to class each day. In the field I've had to refocus many times and re prioritize to be able to achieve the main goal at hand.

Being positive and building a rapport with students will help facilitate a good learning environment. A interactive and positive learning environment where students are excited about learning is one way to keep student retention.

I learned there are different ages and types of people taking these courses. As an instructor its up to me to try and use the best instructional methods for each student to achieve the best learning environment.

I learned there are multiple ways of learning and instructing. By using multiple kinds of instruction methods you are able to connect with as many learning styles as possible to achieve the best learning experience possible.

I have learned that the first day introduction helps the students know who we all are, what they will be learning and what they will accomplish within the course.

I learned that preparation is key, from having a clear and informative syllabus, to reviewing daily lessons you plan on teaching, and having an inviting comfortable environment to learn. This will help in the whole process of instructing.
