Activity

We have to adjust how we interact and teach students with disabilities.  We need to recognize and adjust the lesson plans in order to assist in facilitating their learning.  it will take some time to develop that knowledge and build a better teaching style to include all students with disabilities.

When assigning groups it is important to keep the group size to less than 8.  Also have to be mindful if the group is not working well together.  They may feel a member of the group is not providing equal input.  It is important to refocus the group instead of reassigning the group.

Need to be mindful of how we present ourselves.  We need to use eye contact, avoid fidgeting and we need to walk around the room in order to keep the students attention.

Have clear policies, point them out in the syllabus and make little exception to the rule.  Students will take advantage if they notice the policies and rules are bent at will.

Pay attention to the class, have a backup plan in presenting the material.  Consistently assess and adjust activities to maintain engagement.

Improving powerpoint presentations.

Coming to class prepared and organized will help the class see that you respect their time and you want them to succeed.

Disorganization is a common mistake.  Sometimes I think preparing for what if's is a godo thing and not a hindrance.

I have learned to treat each student as an individual. Face disruptions and difficulties early on and find ways to either adjust or change focus for those students. They may require more attention. Listen to what they have to say, process and approach the problems differently.

This course really assisted me in learning how to deal with the different personalities of the students.  How I speak to them will also determine how the interact. I do like the idea of assigning the center stage student as an observer and note taker.
