I learned that you cannot ask a student if they have a disability and there is a process put in place for students that we as Admissions HS Reps must follow to ensure an efficient and smooth transition. 

I learned that in the mid 1980s, architect Ron Mace created the term Universal Design (UD) and the intent is to make it possible for more people to have immediate access to places and products.

I was not aware that 35% of the students with disabilities at the college level are identified as having learning disabilities and another 20+% have been diagnosed with ADHD. 

I learned that this training is necessary to understand the different kinds of disabilities that children may have and this will help me understand them more as I was exposed to a wide array of disabilities. I will know what to look out for and how to better assist the student. Additionally, schools are obligated to make sure everyone receives equal opportunity throughout and cannot discriminate based on disabilities and there are programs and accommodations that can assist them through these difficult times.
