I’ve gained a clearer understanding of the importance of open, effective communication in building a trustworthy partnership. Through this, we can present a strong, united school front. When everyone understands their areas of responsibility, we can work together to achieve the school’s mission and vision.

I’ve gained a better understanding of what can trigger a school to be selected for review, as well as how the audit and review process works, such as the A-133 audit and the Federal Program Review. With this new understanding, I can better ensure that our school is prepared in advance, since many factors can trigger a review.

I’ve learned how to better read and interpret laws and regulations. These laws and regulations are entirely black and white and do not allow for gray areas. As Financial Aid Officers, we should not attempt to read between the lines or look for hidden meanings in what regulators are telling us.

I’ve developed a clearer understanding of how important it is for a Financial Aid Officer—and the institution—to stay up to date with ever-changing regulations. Doing so not only helps the school remain in compliance, but also better supports students and parents, especially those with complex family and/or financial situations.
