I will give them a little tid bit of information on an up coming lesson to stike the interest, Not every student is "buying" in on it yet, although I have more participation in class discussions from the online lessons.

Everyone has a different life story, getting to know them as an individual will help myself help them achieve thier goals.

One of the biggest advantages of online learning is they can learn at thier own pace, some will be able to adjust to the new concept while others will need more time, As Todd said, video interactive will put more students at ease once they know who they are interacting with.

Most people have access to online anywhere they go, if the student has the drive to learn they will make it work to their advantage.

There is always more to the big picture of the student, sometimes the student will open up and sometimes we need to help them open up.

I picked up on the fact i need to read "the master teacher"

Make sure the student knows you are listening by repeating their question.

My take away from this is that although a student is concidered a customer, the focus should be on "are we delivering the goods and services of an educational institute that the student signed up for. Are we delivering old technology, are they getting the "best bang for thier buck"

What i feel is the most effective is that we get to "know" the student/s, what IE, hobbies, family, interest etc, once we get to know our students it will allow us to better help them inside and outside the classroom. As a professional we should be able to identify struggling students quickly and interact in a positive manner. SHOW THEM THAT WE TRULY CARE.

It is becoming a customer service world, people expect "more".  I like the fact of walking into a business and get greeted with an introduction as to who they are, It makes me feel like I now have an "in" and have a chance of making a better deal.

With our students many of them look at the staff as their "new" family, if I am walking down the hall next to someone I will strike up a conversation, YOU might be just the person they feel they can connect with if they need any type of help or just want to talk to… >>>

Sometimes I find it amazing one how just the little things you can do for a student can have a great impact on them. IE. I had a student that wanted some tutouring and they were struggling. I took the time to come up with a plan of attack to try to get the matter across, all I did was come up with an everyday occurance to use as a reference and applied it to the subject (put it in relation to) and low and behold it clicked. He now applies his everyday things to learning on how it works,… >>>

Each student advisor has a group of students they deal with. My suggestion would be to have a guide line number IE. 80% if any of the 4 scored grades drop below that score they should have to see their respective advisor for a "check in " meeting. Find out whats going on, Are they having trouble outside of school? with a particular class Etc. This would show that we care, catch early retention concerns and hope to make them have better overall class scores.
