It is important to ensure that students are aware of the technology-related requirements to optimise their enrollment in the course; not just from the perspective of receiving learning, but also in terms of constructing learning.

An effort must be made to enable learners to individually and collectively construct the learning that is occurring - both n terms of social and cognitive learning.

I think one of the key issues is motivation. A recognition that motivation is mainly the responsibility of the learner, but as the facilitator of the learning experience, there is an important role for you. An equally important insight is that motivation can be intrinsic or extrinsic and neither should be overlooked.
